1 - A Naturopathic Approach to Managing Stress: Stress is inevitable; how we respond determines the impact it will have on our lives. Join Dr. Taryn Deering, ND to learn practical strategies to reduce and manage stress. Focusing on lifestyle interventions, Taryn will explain how dietary changes can increase energy and protect against the negative impact of stress. Discussion of the role of stress in weight loss, aging, and disease will also be included. In addition, yoga breathing techniques for stress management will be reviewed and demonstrated. Pillars of Health www.pillarsofhealth.ca. Session is full.

 

2 - Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is best described as acupuncture without needles but with a psychological component. The concept is that tapping on acupuncture, subtle energy, meridians while focusing on a negative emotion or physical problem will allow that emotion or problem to be released, quickly and permanently. People often try EFT when all other healing avenues have been explored and wish they had tried it first instead. Facilitator: Al Rodee. www.eftatlantic.com

 

3 - Women & Money: In this workshop participants will learn about the six areas of financial planning with a focus on financial issues that are unique to women. Facilitators: Allison Edwards and Shelley Bibby, Investors Group. Morning Session Full

 

4 - Listen to the Whispers/Ovarian Cancer: An education and awareness program created specifically for women. It is a program delivered by volunteers with a purpose to raise awareness about the signs, symptoms, risks and preventative factors of ovarian cancer. 5 - Women and the Law: Workshop Description to follow. Facilitator: Shawna Hoyte, Dalhousie Legal Aid

 

6 – Pensions: This workshop will provide a brief overview of Canada's existing pension structure, and talk about specific issues relating to women and retirement security.  We will talk about why Canada's current pension structure is not working and look at ideas for making retirement security for everyone a reality. Workshop participants will be given ideas for actions they can take to make sure women don't retire into poverty. Facilitator: Paulette Sadoway, Canadian Labour Congress

 

7 - Power Talk: Technology continues to provide us with an increasing array of powerful communication tools, but the ability to communicate effectively through our own voice is still our strongest tool. We believe that how effectively we communicate will determine the levels of success we reach professionally and personally.  Our focus is to help people discover the power of communications through their own voice.  Joan McKeough will be instructing a hands on interactive workshop that the participants can not only apply in their everyday lives; they will also enjoy the humor as they examine their own communication styles. 8 - Latin Dance: This workshop will bring dance and exercise to a new level.  You will learn to move to rhythms like Salsa, Tango, and Cha,Cha. Facilitator: Leslie Carvery, Shake It Dance Studio. Afternoon session full.

 

9 - Women and Hypertension: Hypertension - The Silent Killer.  Facilitator: Brenda Tucker

 

10 - Personal Safety: Participants will be provided with personal safety information designed to raise their awareness and will include information on home and community safety.  Awareness is essential in preventing victimization. Facilitator: Constable Jeannie Rankin
